While growing up my family lived in several different places and I have fond memories of all of them.  One of the places we lived was approximately 1/2 mile off the main road and I was in the second grade of school at the time.  I don’t recall how long we lived there, but I do remember it being a lot of fun, but also it was a long walk to catch the school bus for a young kid.  And at that time we didn’t get out of school every time a snow flake fell to the ground.  I remember walking in snow so deep that it was hard to walk, and Dad worked in Marion and couldn’t drive us to school or even to the bus stop.

This house was out in the country and we had to walk across a couple of cattle guards and one day I was in a hurry to catch the bus and fell, getting my leg trapped in the boards on the guard and a neighbor boy who was older had to pull me out of it.  I sure was more careful after that and made sure that I was watching where my feet were stepping.

There was a small creek that ran through the property and as kids we liked to play and baptize our friends in the creek.  We didn’t have bunches of toys back then like the kids do now, but we had fun just using our imaginatiion.

I have been wanting to visit my old home for a long time and finally a few weeks ago I talked Rick into driving me up that 1/2 mile lane, even though it had ‘keep out’ signs all over the place.  He just knew we would either get shot or arrested, but I was determined to go and while there I jumped out of the car with camera in hand and began taking pictures as he was calling for me to get back in the car.  As you can see, we didn’t get shot nor arrested and the result is the above picture.

I love animals, but never before have I loved a skunk until now.  As you can see, my favorite skunk is our granddaughter Madison.  She is so spoiled that I’m sure she resembles a skunk.  She made a very loveable skunk for Halloween this year and of course Granny Cheria had to dress in an orange outfit for the season also.
